The prize purse for monetary awards for stage 2 of the Sanitation Challenge for Ghana GBP 1.285 million

In the Sanitation Challenge for Ghana Metropolitan and Municipal and District Assemblies are competing to design and implement the best liquid waste management strategies for their cities. There are both monetary and honorary prizes.

Honorary prizes

Honorary prizes are there to recognise remarkable achievements, creativity and unique outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Best business and service delivery model;
  • Best networks and partnerships for smart investments;
  • Best local innovation;
  • Best awareness creation and capacity development, etc.

A total of GBP 1.43 million is being awarded in prizes between 2016 and 2018. In 2016 the Duapa Award recognised 21 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) that excelled in the design of urban liquid waste management strategies with three District Assemblies receiving a total monetary award of up to 75,000 GBP.

The Final Grand Prize, Dignified City Award will be awarded to MMDAs that make the most progress in the implementation of their strategies by the end of the challenge period in June 2019.
